Ode to Trees

Breathing life

Part of the oratorio, Earth: the Beloved, the movement Song of the Seasons pauses in a reverent ode to the great grandparents of our Earth, the trees.

An ode to trees: breathing life.

by William Rand

You are gentle, yet mighty.

Towering over all of life.

A gazing fortress in the sky.

Sanctuary of love.

You are tall saints of power.

Living your purpose throughout time.

You balance the whole web of life.

You are the still center.

Your leaves are the guardians of the air.

We breathe your labors.

You make space for all of life

simply by breathing.

You are shade

for the weary

Those who are lost and afraid.

For the wanderers and wonderers.

You are protection

You are gentle, yet mighty.

Towering over all of life.

A gazing fortress in the sky.

Sanctuary of love.

You are ancient strength

Forever praising

Always praying

Ever breathing.

Life for the world

To breathe.
